Restoration of a Gertrude Jekyll Hidden Gem
On the windswept north Devon coast lies a long-forgottenGertrude Jekyll garden. It had been added to over many generations by various owners and hence lost its initial, simplistic charm. The bones of the garden, some impressive zigzag walls that help to divert the strong sea winds were completely obscured by ragged yucca trees and leggy hebes.
GNLD were called upon to reimagine the original concept with a 21st century twist. Our first job was some serious clearance to reveal the bare beauty of the architectural features, which we have added to via the addition of more columns within the Kitchen Garden.
We have gone to painstaking lengths to match local stone to ensure a sympathetic blending of materials for both walls and paving. https://www.lovellstonegroup.comhave been wonderful in providing exquisite Somerset blue lias setts and flags.
